Who is Simon Illingworth?
Simon is a Sir Vincent Fairfax Fellow, former Homicide detective and corruption buster. He’s been bashed and threatened by bent cops and gangland killers, carried a gun 24 hours a day, caught Top 10 most wanted and received multiple bravery awards.
Simon’s police career was war. Corruption, criminals, Lawyer X. Eventually, he spoke out against a sick culture and quit the Force with lingering PTSD.
He then moved to a quiet seaside village with a population of 300 near the 12 Apostles. He was asked to join the local CFA, because they assured him “Nothing bad ever happens around here.”
Until it did.
Easter Sunday 2019
A drowning tourist, a flipped six-metre rescue boat smashed to pieces and three seriously injured life savers floating amongst cliffs and sea caves in a roaring sea.
A Rescue helicopter crewman hanging from a winch grabbed one, the drowning tourist snatched a life ring thrown off the cliffs meanwhile Simon climbed down the cliff and entered the sea; he dragged the remaining two rescuers to shore. Both died.
PTSD returned.
Once a prolific keynote speaker, he’s knocked back every speech request for 7 years.
But he’s back, we welcome, Simon Illingworth.
