Each year, the St John’s Cathedral Loaves & Fishes Luncheon, raises funds for community organisations that deliver innovative projects improving the lives of vulnerable and disadvantaged members of our community. Held in the magnificent Cathedral setting, the Loaves and Fishes Luncheon attracts a prestigious guest speaker, along with over 400 attendees from Brisbane’s corporate, small business, charity, and education sectors, as well as other faith communities, who sit down together to a meal of fish and chips and a glass of wine. Funds are raised from ticket sales and donations on the day, and the event is entirely run by volunteers. In 2026, the 28th Annual Loaves & Fishes Luncheon will proudly support the MND and Me Foundation with the guest speaker being Ms Debbie Platz APM.The MND and Me Foundation is a Queensland-based non-profit organisation dedicated to supporting people living with Motor Neuron Disease (MND) and their families. Founded in 2011 by Scott Sullivan following his own diagnosis, the foundation operates under a dual mission: To Care and To Cure. This Foundation provides vital support and specialized equipment to ensure Queenslanders living with MND maintain their independence and quality of life. The foundation also actively funds critical medical research and treatment initiatives aimed at discovering a cure.
The guest speaker, Debbie Platz commenced as the Queensland Human Rights Commissioner on 30 January 2026, becoming the second person appointed to the role. She brings extensive public sector leadership experience, including serving as NSW SES Deputy Commissioner Operations and as an Assistant Commissioner with both the Australian Federal Police and Queensland Police Service. Recognised for her ethical and diligent service, she has received the Australian Police Medal, the Queensland Police Service Medal, and a Meritorious Service Medal. She holds postgraduate qualifications from the University of Cambridge and is an Adjunct Professor at the University of Queensland.
