You’ll practice real-world shooting, get personalised feedback, and leave with a new understanding of how to turn everyday streets into unforgettable photographs.
Whether you’re just starting or looking to refine your skills, this workshop gives you the tools and confidence to see, shoot, and share your unique vision.
What We'll Cover:
1. Lenses For The Street
Why a 35mm or 50mm prime lens is often superior to a massive zoom, but also why a versatile zoom can be a brilliant choice and open up many options for the street photographer.
2. Camera Settings For Street Photography
Understand the pros and cons of all your shooting modes for street photography, plus experimenting with shutter speed to introduce blur and movement. And unleash the power of Zone Focusing.
3. Monochrome V Colour
Learn when to use black and white to simplify scenes and focus on light and shape, and when to use colour to highlight mood, contrast, and details that bring your image to life.
4. Photographing People: Candid vs. Portrait
Discover how to shoot candid street moments authentically, and when you want a posed portrait, master the strategies to get a natural “yes” without breaking the flow of the scene.
5. Seeing Like A Photographer
Train your eye to notice moments, gestures, and the relationships between people and the space. Anticipate scenes before they happen, while developing a deeper awareness of light, movement, and storytelling.
6. Mastering Light And Shadow
From finding pockets of light in dark alleys (chiaroscuro) to using backlight to turn people into anonymous, graphic shapes, the street provides high-contrast environments that are perfect for drama.
7. Working A Location
Explore the difference between moving through a location ‘hunting’ for images versus finding a background and waiting for the image to emerge.
8. Decisive Moment
The art of timing and anticipation. Learn to recognise the expressions, and interactions that turn ordinary scenes into unforgettable photographs. With practice, you’ll capture moments full of life as they unfold.
9. Composition Techniques
Strengthen your images with powerful composition techniques that bring clarity and impact to your work. Learn how to use layering, framing, and leading lines to guide the viewer’s eye and retain their interest.
10. Building a Story or Series
Move beyond single images and start telling deeper visual stories. Learn how to identify themes in your work and sequence your photos into a cohesive narrative that captures mood, place, and human experience.

A sharper eye for moments
You’ll learn to notice gestures, interactions, and scenes most people miss.
Confidence shooting in public
Feel more comfortable photographing strangers—both candidly and with permission.
