Medical Interpreting - "Bridging Meaning under pressure"
About
LMT Medical WebinarPresenter: A/Prof Christ LEUNG, a Gastroenterologist, General Physician, and Medical Lead (Clinical Education Unit) of Austin Health.
This webinar, led by A/Prof Chris Leung, gastroenterologist and a Consultant in General Medicine provides medical interpreters with a clear understanding of common endoscopic procedures such as colonoscopy and gastroscopy, including their purpose, process, and key terminology. It explores the communication challenges in endoscopy settings—such as explaining risks, obtaining informed consent, and addressing patient anxiety—and offers practical strategies for delivering accurate, culturally sensitive interpretation. Participants will also learn techniques that support accurate interpreting in other clinically complex conversations where risk, uncertainty, and emotion are high.
