Queensland Dinosaur Week - Mount Morgan
About
Dr Scott Hocknull, Principal Research Fellow in Applied Palaeontology & Palaeotourism at CQUniversity, will take the audience through the deep-time prehistory of the Mt Morgan region, spanning more than 380 million years of Earth history, from ancient equatorial seas filled with trilobites and coral reefs to the formation of Gondwana and Australia’s journey north. Along the way we meet the remarkable creatures that once lived here, from marine life to dinosaurs and the giant megafauna of the Ice Age.The talk also celebrates the pioneering local collectors and early palaeontologists whose discoveries helped shape scientific understanding of Queensland’s past and contributed to the geological knowledge behind the region’s mining prosperity. Today, new technologies including high-resolution imaging, digital modelling and analytical science are opening a new era of discovery and opportunity for future scientists, educators and tourism innovators in Central Queensland.
Meet Dr Scott! Have you ever wanted to be a palaeontologist? Bring along your favourite fossils and palaeontology questions for a Q&A with Dr Scott after the presentation.
