First Nations’ Histories and Cultures in Mathematics & STEM

The South Australian Museum and the CSER Maths in Schools Team at Adelaide University invite you to a full day workshop. Delve into the Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander histories & cultures content in Mathematics and STEM, including the nine rich contexts that weave narratives through the six strands of the Australian Curriculum: Mathematics the F-10 year levels. Join us for an engaging day of learning and hands on activities.The day includes:
• A workshop making important connections between maths, culture and the curriculum by the Adelaide University Maths in Schools Team
• A tour of the Australian Aboriginal Cultures Gallery in the South Australian Museum where you'll see objects such as projectile technologies (e.g. spear throwers), instructional games & toys, and fishing nets & traps
• Hands on Deadly Science Fish Traps activity delivered by South Australian Museum team
• Exploration of the day's learning connections to digital tools for the classroom (Including VR and AR), delivered by the CSER STEM Team
• Teachers will receive access to lesson plan examples & background info to support curriculum planning. Local contexts will be explored
Audience: This workshop is suitable for teachers across Reception to Year 10.

About The CSER STEM Professional Learning Team at Adelaide University
The CSER STEM Professional Learning Team is based at Adelaide University, in the Faculty of Sciences Engineering and Technologies, and offers a range of STEM based professional learning to in-service and pre-service teachers across Australia.
