"Psychological insights and interventions on (mis)information" by Dr Natasha van Antwerpen
The World Economic Forum recently named misinformation, false or misleading claims, as a leading global threat. At the same time, people are finding it increasingly difficult to tell apart true and false information, reporting lower trust in journalists and mainstream media. From the University of Adelaide, Dr Van Antwerpen tells us how how psychology can contribute to understanding responses to misinformation, including its connections to societal attitudes and ways we can address it. She will also speak about constructive journalism, which applies psychological theory and insight to news production, with an aim to produce news that is less misleading, more responsible, and less anxiety and depression invoking.
