Generative AI and Gifted Students

Generative AI and Gifted Students:

Opportunities, Boundaries, and Practical Applications

7:00pm – 8:00pm; Wednesday 22nd July 2026

An information session for educators and parents

with

Dr Michelle Ronksley-Pavia

Generative AI (GenAI) is already being utilised in many educational contexts, raising important questions about how it can be used to support diverse learners, such as gifted and twice-exceptional learners. This session explores how GenAI can and is being responsibly leveraged to personalise learning, with a focus on strengths-based and talent-focused approaches. Drawing on recent research, the session outlines a structured framework for using AI as a pedagogical or cognitive partner; supporting educators to explore and refine differentiated approaches before classroom implementation. Practical examples will be shared to illustrate potential approaches. The session will also consider key boundaries and considerations to ensure that the use of AI remains pedagogically grounded and guided by educator professional judgement.

ABOUT DR Ronksley-Pavia: Dr Michelle Ronksley-Pavia is an internationally recognised award-winning researcher and educator focused on improving understanding and support for gifted and twice-/multi-exceptional learners. She is a Senior Lecturer in Special and Inclusive Education at Griffith University, Queensland, Australia, and Program Director for the Graduate Certificate in Special Education, bringing over two decades of classroom experience to her research and teaching. Her work spans gifted education, inclusive education, and special education, with a particular focus on gifted learners and those with twice-/multi-exceptionality, where strengths and disability intersect. She examines key challenges such as identification, underachievement, differentiation, and the compounded disadvantage some gifted students can experience in educational settings. Her recent research explores how generative AI can support personalised, strengths-based learning for neurodivergent students.

Dr Ronksley-Pavia’s contributions have been recognised internationally, including the 2025 World Council for Gifted and Talented Children (WCGTC) Emerging Scholar Award. She is also the first Australian recipient of the Esther Katz Rosen Fund Grant from the American Psychological Foundation. She serves as Australian Delegate to the WCGTC and contributes to international conversations and policy development in gifted and inclusive education. As both a researcher and parent of twice-exceptional children, she brings a deeply informed and practical perspective to her work.
