Robotics Program VEXIQ -- Transitioning to PBL
About
"Important Note: If you did not attend the previous Intermediate class, please contact the organiser to confirm your eligibility. A brief placement interview may be required to ensure this class is the right fit for you."Following the successful completion of our Foundation and Intermediate VEX IQ programs, we are thrilled to announce the transition into Project-Based Learning (PBL) for the upcoming 2026-2027 Robotics season.
Start Date: Classes will officially commence in Week 3.
Weeks 1 & 2: No sessions (Coach away attending VEX World Championship).
Weekly Schedule: Sessions will run every Tue and Wed (need to select ONLY ONE) for the remainder of the term.
Program Fee: The current enrollment fee reflects this 9-week intensive schedule, plus Field & Game Set Levy.
From Learning to Engineering:
In this advanced phase, the "classroom" becomes an "engineering lab." Students will no longer follow step-by-step manuals; instead, they will be presented with the official 2026-2027 VEX IQ Robotics Competition challenge.
Using the Engineering Design Process, students will:
Analyze the new game rules to identify high-scoring strategies.
Prototype custom mechanisms from scratch.
Program advanced autonomous routines using specialized sensors.
Document their journey in a professional Engineering Notebook.
Important Program Disclosures:
Competition Positions & Team Selection: While this course is designed to prepare students for high-level play, participation in the class does not guarantee a specific position on a competition team or entry into specific tournament brackets. Team structures, roles (Driver, Programmer, Scout), and final registrations will be finalized in accordance with school decisions and student performance/dedication.
Field & Game Set Levy & Ware and Tare: To ensure our students are practicing on a world-class stage, a resource levy will be applied to this term. This covers the cost of the official 2026-2027 Game Element Kit and the full-scale Competition Field Perimeter and Tiles. Having these assets on-site allows students to calibrate their robots to the exact specifications they will encounter at regional and national events.
Next Steps:
We are incredibly proud of the progress our students have made at the Foundation and Intermediate levels. This next step into PBL is where they truly begin to think, fail, and succeed like real-world engineers.
