From the organizers:
Scouthike is an annual, state-wide hiking event for around 1200 scouts. Scouthike will be held in Tallarook State Forest. Branch First Aid, 4x4 and Radio teams work together with the Scouthike organizing committee to provide services and support for this highly successful event. Scouthike has a theme base each year, with every person, Sleep point and activity site being asked to dress-up to the theme each year, so increasing the fun aspect of the weekend.
2026 THEME: Historical Adventures

We pleased to subsidize this camp via fundraising from 90$ to 40$
1st Albert Park will be going as a LEARNER PATROL this year - As we have a lot of fresh Scouts!
What this means:
Learner Patrols will be accompanied by a Mentor Leader on their hike, walk with light pack on Saturday (lunch, snacks, water) and return to their original base. (Tent and sleeping gear stays set-up). For the half-day on Sunday, scouts will have to carry their tent/sleep gear towards the bus pick-up point.
As a learner patrol, we will be scored, and get to compare results, but it will not count towards the main competition (competitive scouts hike with full packs and no assistance - maybe next year!)
HOWEVER!
Our aim for Albert Park is have a go, learn, and encourage scouts to gain independent camping and hiking skills, much of which is recognized in the OAS (Outdoor Adventure Skills) badges.
To get the most out of this event, and avoid leader help, scouts should practice:
🥾 Walking long distances (at least 10km, if not 15-20km) carrying a backpack
🍳 Basic Cooking (eg heating pasta sauce on a stove) We will have one more practice in Term 2 over a fire pit (Same scenario as Scouthike)
🧭 Using a compass, and reading paper maps - (specifically bearings, magnetic variation and Grid References) Covered on Scout nights, but make sure it sticks!
