The red hot sextet Melody Graves and the Hokum Redemption (MGHR) are deeply rooted in the jazz, swing, and blues traditions of the 1920s and ’30s, drawing on the sounds of old New Orleans to deliver a style that feels both authentic and new.The ensemble is led by vocalist and washboard percussionist Melody Graves (Paula Hackney), whose influences include Bessie Smith, Billie Holiday, Ella Fitzgerald, Fats Waller, and Louis Armstrong.
MGHR are known for standout musicianship and dynamic arrangements and live performances. The ensemble features dual vocalists, with Dennis Duigan adding a distinctive ragtime and hokum blues edge, alongside Brisbane’s finest jazz musicians Andrew Garton (clarinet), Jordy Stitt (piano), Benja King (double bass), and Evan J. Evans (drumkit).
Performance highlights include Woodford Folk Festival, Fever’s The Jazz Room: A Journey to New Orleans, Maleny Music Festival, Jumpers and Jazz in July, and the Brisbane International Jazz Festival.

Step inside from 6:30 pm. The music begins at 7:30 pm. Venue closes at 11.30pm.
Seating is unreserved and claimed by those who arrive first — the early ones always find the best vantage point.
Food and small plates will be available throughout the evening, and the bar will be flowing with local and international wines, classic cocktails, fine spirits, and a deep collection of bourbons worthy of New Orleans itself.
