Gala Rouge | The Epicurean Red Hill (CANCELLED)
About
Gala Rouge 2026 - Saturday 16th May - inaugurates the Mornington Peninsula’s pre-eminent annual celebration of art and culture.Presented by La Rue La Rue Gallery in partnership with The Epicurean Red Hill, Gala Rouge marks the launch of the gallery’s winter exhibition - a significant retrospective of painted works by the celebrated Australian designer, illustrator and cultural figure Alexander Stitt AM (1937–2016), presented as part of NGV’s Melbourne Design Week.
Throughout the evening, guests will enjoy art, music, fashion and the finest food and wines of the Mornington Peninsula, alongside curated entertainment.
Guests attending Gala Rouge will enjoy an exclusive preview of A Life. Be In It. - The Artworks of Alexander Stitt AM, including a curator-led walkthrough prior to the public opening. Best known as the creator of the iconic Life. Be In It. campaign and the beloved
character Norm, Stitt’s work helped shape Australia’s visual culture during the late twentieth century.
A resident of Red Hill, Stitt maintained a deeply personal painting practice across decades. Marking ten years since the artist’s passing, the exhibition reveals a lesser-seen dimension of this practice - his vibrant and expressive paintings, drawn from the artist’s private archive for public presentation.
Many of these works have rarely been seen publicly and together form a body of work unlikely to be assembled again.
