Rotary Club of Gold Coast Dinner Meeting 9th April 2026
About
Dr Shabnam GujadhurShabnam is a Medical Registrar at Gold Coast University Hospital and a passionate advocate for women’s health and cancer awareness. Originally from Mauritius, she moved to Australia to pursue her lifelong dream of becoming a doctor.
At just 30 years old, at the very start of her medical career in 2022, Shabnam was diagnosed with a rare form of stage 1 ovarian cancer — an experience that profoundly shifted her perspective from clinician to patient overnight. This journey, marked by multiple surgeries and ongoing surveillance, has shaped her approach to medicine with deeper empathy, insight, and compassion.
Adding to the complexity of her survivorship journey, Shabnam was later diagnosed with a neuroendocrine tumour, further highlighting the unpredictable and often invisible challenges faced by patients navigating life after cancer.
Since her diagnosis, Shabnam has become a powerful voice in advocacy, working closely with organisations such as the Ovarian Cancer Research Foundation to raise awareness, support research, and amplify patient experiences. In recognition of her impact, she was awarded the 2025 World Ovarian Cancer Coalition Impact Award for her international advocacy work.
Through sharing her story, Shabnam brings a unique and deeply human perspective — as both doctor and patient — championing early detection, holistic care, and the importance of supporting both patients and healthcare professionals. Her work continues to inspire meaningful conversations around resilience, purpose, and the power of lived experience in shaping better healthcare.
