Scout Hike 2026
About
There are two options to participate in Scout Hike.1. Learner Patrol.
Each Learner Patrol is accompanied all the time by one mentor only. Learner Patrols will need to carry a hike pack with all of the gear and food. Tent, sleeping mat, sleeping bag, clothes, and food. Water is available at many locations throughout the forest.
Friday - the Learner Patrol will catch the bus from Doncaster at about 6pm, and will need to take a small 1-2km hike from the bus stop in the forest to the Sleep Point, where they will set up their tents and have dinner (bring it from home or prepare on site).
Saturday - leave your tents set up with your sleeping mat and bag inside. You will be hiking today with your back pack full of all your clothes and food. You will spend the day hiking to different activity check points, and return to the same Sleep Point for the night.
Sunday - pack up your tent and hike with everything for about 3-4 hours, completing more check points. We may be able to send your tents with another Leader who has a car and we pick them up at the finish line.
Your full pack will weigh between 12 and 15kg on Friday night and Sunday, and less than 10kg on Saturday, and will cover about 28-30km across the weekend. If you are not confident you can carry this amount for this long, this may not be the right camp for you. We are scheduling another hike just for 13th Malvern later this year.
2. Competitor Patrol.
You will carry everything all the time, not returning to the same Sleep Point and will be aiming to complete as many check points as possible. This is for experienced hikers only.
The cost for each Scout in either Patrol is $90.
We will all need to get to a location in Doncaster to catch a chartered bus to Tallarook State Forest. We will also be collected from here on Sunday afternoon.
