About the instructor:
Hi! I'm Divya :)
I have been dancing for many many years now: I've been training in Bharatanatyam for over 20 years, and in Kathak for 3 years.
I have performed Bharatanatyam across Singapore and Australia, Kathak across Melbourne, and was part of the Bollywood dance company SJ Crew for 3 years, performing across various events in Melbourne.
As part of SJ Crew, I have also conducted several workshops designed for beginner dancers to get up and join the dance floor. I have choreographed and run rehearsals for several Sangeet performances. I conducted a large-scale dance workshop at the Woodford Folk Festival with over 50 attendees who were all new to Indian dance and music.
This year, I will be performing as part of the award-winning dance production "Temple of Desire" at the Geelong Arts Centre, Sydney Opera House, and Melbourne Clocktower.
I also like to explore and dabble in different dance styles including semiclassical, belly dance, South Indian street style, and more when I have time!
Dance for me is about joy! Each style brings out a different part of my personality. When I'm dancing or learning a dance, I find my mind is so occupied with what to do with my arms, legs, gaze, expressions, and so on that all my troubles melt away!
