Bevan Carter has been a long-standing member of the Bassendean community since moving to the area with his wife Jennie in 1981. Jennie became actively involved in local government in 1987 following the publication of her book Bassendean: A Social History, reflecting a shared commitment to documenting and preserving the stories of the region.
Bevan served the community as a Town Councillor for 14 years (1991–2005), contributing significantly to local civic life. Alongside his public service, he has developed a strong reputation as a researcher and author, beginning his publishing work in 2000 with The Vanishing Floral Heritage of the Swan Valley.
His work has increasingly focused on local Aboriginal history, contributing valuable insights into the cultural and historical narratives of Bassendean and surrounding areas.
Bevan Carter will present on his latest research into the Aboriginal history of Bassendean, forming the third instalment in a significant body of work that follows Nyungah Land and Eden Hill Camps. This talk will explore the deep cultural connections, stories, and histories of Noongar people in the Bassendean area, contributing to the ongoing preservation and recognition of First Nations heritage within the local community.
