About Gene Tree:
Inspired by climate science and DNA modelling, these compositions take stories from our genetic maps of adaption, resilience, extinction; the genetic story of the peppered moth and the migratory monarch butterfly; and, musical interpretations of DNA and its patterns, replications, faults, transcriptions into mRNA, “the incessant, relentless rhythms of our biology - cells duplicating, dying, birthing” (Nadja Kostich).
The initial research, development and early phase of composition was supported by an APRAAMCOS development grant.
The music is also the spine and the springboard for the multi-award wining allied project: Gene Tree: Listen. Now. Again - a performance installation piece Elissa conceived of in partnership with St Martins YAC which has had two public seasons.
Gene Tree Listen. Now. Again winner of 2 x 2023 Green Room Awards for
‘Best Production’ and ‘Outstanding Composition & Sound Design’
and
‘2025 Excellence in Community Arts Participation’ at Darwin Fringe Festival,
in partnership with St Martins YAC, Royal Botanic Gardens Melbourne, Corrugated Iron Theatre, Darwin George Brown Botanic Gardens, Darwin Symphony Orchestra YAP.
