Homemaker’s Earthworks Building Workshop
About
What we’ll be doingThis workshop is all about getting hands on and having a go. You’ll be working with natural earth materials, learning the basics of earth building in a relaxed, supportive environment where no prior experience is needed.
The main focus will be on mudbricks—from preparing the mix and making bricks through to building simple wall sections. Along the way, you’ll get a feel for how earth behaves as a material, how to work with it using simple tools, and how these techniques can be used for small projects at home or in the garden.
The workshop takes place at the Secret Garden Community Hub, surrounded by real earth buildings made using mudbrick, cob, rammed earth, and other natural techniques. Being on site gives you the chance to see what’s possible, ask questions, and learn directly from structures that have been built by hand over time.
Expect a friendly, practical day of learning by doing, getting a little muddy, and building confidence with natural materials you can use again.
A few handy notes for the day:
We’ll have tea and lunch provided, so no need to bring food
The workshop runs from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm
We’ll be working outdoors and getting our hands dirty, so please wear comfy, practical clothes
Don’t forget a hat, sunscreen, and a pair of heavy‑duty gloves
