TNG - Bokashi Workshop
About
Bokashi Workshop: Fermentation for Your Kitchen Scraps. With Sarah & Dan from Oak & Rose Garden Co
Turn your food waste into garden gold.
Bokashi is the Japanese fermentation method that lets you compost ALL your kitchen scraps (including meat, dairy, and cooked food) quickly, cleanly, and without any bad smells. The secret? A living microbial inoculant (the “Bokashi mix”) that you sprinkle over your scraps to kick-start the process.
In this workshop you will:
Make your own Bokashi mix from scratch using only easily accessible ingredients, no fancy equipment required!
Take home a generous bag of your fresh mix — enough to get you started. You’ll let it ferment in the bag for 2–3 weeks so it’s active and ready to use.
Learn how to build a Bokashi bin using just two ordinary buckets.
By the end of the session you’ll understand:
How the microbes work and why Bokashi is faster and more efficient than traditional composting
How to make your own mix at a fraction of the cost of store-bought options
How to use your mix and bin every day
How to turn the finished fermented scraps into rich soil
Optional: Bring 2 buckets with lids, same size to make your own bokashi bins on the day.
