Sea Kelp or Seek Help: Forests Beneath Our Ferries
Forget boardrooms and blazers, hand her a wetsuit and a research boat!
Annemie Rose Janssen is an environmentally passionate scientist with a strong academic foundation and a deep love for the ocean. Her career has taken her to several fascinating crossroads: where science meets policy, where policy meets people, and where seaweed meets spreadsheets.
Her research journey has spanned various ecological realms, from bioluminescent deep-sea sharks to marine mammal conservation, Southern Ocean and Antarctic dynamics, nature-based solutions, and all things kelp. She is currently pursuing a PhD at Macquarie University, where she is investigating how underwater forests are adapting to cities, and how this adaptation could be used to our advantage.
Today, her lab coat may smell like seaweed, and her hair may be beyond repair, courtesy of saltwater damage, but Annemie Rose is the aquatic version of Indiana Jones, diving into tangled kelp forests armed with her data sheets and a heart full of curiosity. And she wouldn't have it any other way.
Free event, bookings essential.
