Morris Mania: In Conversation
Join us at Carrick Hill for a rare and unmissable opportunity to hear from Hadrian Garrard, Director of the William Morris Gallery, London.
Garrard is in Adelaide for a very limited time and will explore the extraordinary lasting influence of William Morris designs in popular culture. Drawing on exhibitions including Morris Mania and William Morris and Art from the Islamic World, he will reflect on how Morris’s work has been reinterpreted for contemporary audiences, reaching far beyond gallery spaces and in many ways “going viral”.
This is a unique chance to hear firsthand from someone whose work is shaping the understanding of Morris’s legacy.
The event will take the form of a key note speech from Hadrian Garrard followed by a live Q&A between Hadrian Garrard and The Right Honourable The Lord Mayor of Adelaide, Dr Jane Lomax-Smith AM, a passionate admirer of Morris’s work. Together they will discuss Morris’s enduring design philosophy and its surprising resonance in South Australia including its presence at Carrick Hill and within the historic Barr Smith family collections.
Ticket sales for this event will support programming at Carrick Hill, particularly exhibitions of William Morris work in the house. This includes fresh interpretation of Morris’s presence throughout the interiors, introducing a dedicated showcase space, and using innovative technology to create immersive Morris inspired illuminations. Funds raised will help realise this vision and bring Morris’s story to life for audiences at Carrick Hill into the future.
