Farm to Family
About
An interactive and practical workshop exploring how food and fibre learning can be embedded into play-based early childhood programs. The session aligns with EYLF v2 (particularly Outcomes 1, 2 and 3) and provides realistic, low-cost strategies educators can implement immediately. The workshop integrates three key lenses:
1. Sustainability & Waste.
Embedding Refuse, Reduce, Reuse and Recycle principles into daily food routines (composting, portioning, reuse of materials, fibre choices), informed by the LGS Waste Guide.
2. Cultural Identity & Inclusion
Recognising food as relational and cultural. The session explores how educators can:
• Invite families to share food traditions and stories
• Respect dietary practices (religious, cultural, allergy-related)
• Avoid shame-based language around food
• Promote belonging through food experiences
3. Inquiry & Wellbeing
Using food and fibre contexts to support sensory regulation, scientific thinking, agency and systems understanding through hands-on, child-led activities.
Educators will leave with 3–4 ready-to-use experiences that can be implemented immediately.
