About

The NSW branch of the Australian Association for Infant Mental Health (AAIMH) hosts a monthly online seminar series.

Join us at our May 2026 seminar to hear from Aimee Pember on the topic, "Whose attunement are we measuring? The neurodivergent parent-infant dyad and what we might be missing".

Overview: Infant mental health practice places the parent-infant relationship at its heart, yet the frameworks we use to observe, assess, and support that relationship were largely built around neurotypical interaction styles. When the parent, the infant, or both are neurodivergent, a deeply connected dyad can look atypical, and clinicians risk misreading health as pathology. This seminar invites IMH practitioners to examine the assumptions embedded in our clinical lens, explore what attunement and co-regulation can look like across neurodivergent dyads, and consider practical, affirming approaches that follow the family's lead rather than a neurotypical template.

Amiee Pember (she/her) is a Perinatal Psychologist based in Busselton, WA, with a special interest in perinatal and infant mental health. As an AuDHDer, Amiee brings both clinical expertise and lived experience to her work with neurodivergent families — a combination that grounds her neurodiversity-affirming, trauma-informed practice. Her work centres the parent-infant relationship and she is passionate about equipping perinatal and infant health professionals to support Autistic and ADHD parents in ways that foster identity, connection, and belonging.

Cost: Free for AAIMH members; $15 for non-AAIMH members. Please note, the session will not be recorded.
