Shepparton Jewish Agricultural Settlement – Migrant Stories by Devorah Zmood
This book tells the story of the only Jewish agricultural settlement in Victoria’s Goulburn Valley, established in Orrvale, Shepparton in 1913. Built through government settlement schemes and Jewish philanthropic support, it became home to migrant families who created a vibrant rural community centred on farming, faith, and shared cultural life.
Focusing on the families who lived there through to the 1960s, the book explores their social, religious, and economic connections, as well as links to broader histories including the Dunera Boys and local Aboriginal communities. Drawing on personal stories, photographs, and community contributions, it serves as a lasting tribute to a close-knit community that has since disappeared.
