Privacy Awareness Week (PAW) is a regional campaign that highlights the importance of privacy and building trust in how personal information is handled. This year’s theme is “Smart Tech, Smarter Choices – Protecting Yourself in the Age of AI”
The Office of the Information Commissioner (OIC) is proud to host its inaugural PAW event on Wednesday 6 May 2026.
This year’s event will bring together public sector professionals for engaging sessions designed to build understanding, capability and collaboration in privacy practice.
The Information Commissioner will be hosting a parallel roundtable lunch with agency heads. Please email paw@oic.wa.gov.au if your agency head is interested in participating.

There is no cost for attending. However, if you can no longer attend, please advise paw@oic.wa.gov.au to enable us to offer your place to a waitlisted attendee.

A welcome tea/coffee is provided before session 1, and a light lunch is provided during session 2.

Attendance at this event will be prioritised for Privacy Officers and PRIS Champions. Registration is limited to a maximum of two (2) people per agency.

session 1 - keynotes
This session will feature an opening address from the Hon. Dr Tony Buti, Attorney General.
The Information Commissioner, Annelies Moens, will provide a keynote address. The Commissioner will also launch the new OIC one-page resource on privacy and automated decision-making.
This session will conclude with a panel discussion featuring a Q&A with the Privacy Deputy Commissioner, Nina Skewes and Information Access Deputy Commissioner, Patrick Ky.
session 2 - privacy community of practice and train the trainer
This session will focus on building capability and community. It will feature the launch of the OIC’s Privacy Community of Practice – an ongoing forum for collaboration and knowledge sharing. Attendees will also hear practical insights and experiences from three public sector entities on implementing the PRIS Act.
After a short, catered, lunch break, the OIC will run a ‘train the trainer’ session designed for Privacy Officers and PRIS champions. This session will equip attendees who wish to deliver privacy training in their workplaces with the PRIS essentials, along with a customisable training pack to support their education delivery.
