Poetry Night featuring Judith Beveridge
Poetry Nights at Barry O'Keefe Library are hosted by local writer and publisher, Carol Jenkins. It is a relaxed event that features readings from a guest poet, 8 open mic slots (3 minutes each) and a short break in between. Come along to hear from established and emerging voices in Sydney’s poetry scene!
About the guest poet
Judith Beveridge has published eight books of poetry. Her books have won major prizes including the Prime Minister’s Award for Poetry for Sun Music: New and Selected Poems. Her latest book is Tintinnabulum which was short-listed for the UK Laurel Prize and the Judith Wright Calanthe Award. She taught poetry writing at Sydney University for 16 years. She was the poetry editor of Meanjin for 10 years and has recently joined the editorial team of The Marrow. In 2025 she received a Lifetime Achievement Award from Creative Australia.

Carol Jenkins is an Australian writer, blogger, visual artist and erstwhile audio publisher. She lives in Sydney. Coming to writing from a career in chemical regulation, her first poem was published in 2004. She writes essays, poetry, letters and blogs at Show Me The Treasure. She has three full length collections of poetry Fishing in the Devonian, (2008) Xn, (2013) ― both of which were short-listed for Premiers’ awards― and A Crooked Stile, (2019), an episodic illustrated novel Select Episodes from the Mr Farmhand Series (2016) ― all published by Puncher & Wattman. Her most recent publication is the petite Dairy of a Comma (2022) from Ginnindera Press.
