At the Flicks with EHS 2026 - The Sheep Detectives
About
A century ago, audiences gathered at the original Moonee Ponds Theatre on Puckle Street to enjoy silent films and the first talkies. Today, we return to the same street to enjoy film once again at Penny Lane. Join the Essendon Historical Society at the Flicks for a morning screening of The Sheep Detectives - a fundraiser in support of the Society’s ongoing work.A mystery for the whole flock. From director Kyle Balda (Minions) and writer Craig Mazin (Chernobyl, The Last of Us) comes THE SHEEP DETECTIVES, a witty and delightfully offbeat whodunnit that turns an ordinary farm into the scene of an extraordinary investigation.
Every night, shepherd George (Hugh Jackman) reads detective stories to his beloved sheep, never suspecting they are listening more closely than he realises. But when a mysterious incident shakes the farm, the flock is forced to step out of the pasture and into the role of unlikely sleuths, following clues and investigating the humans around them.
As their investigation deepens, the sheep begin to question everything they thought they knew about the world beyond their field, uncovering secrets, suspects and surprises at every turn. What starts as curiosity quickly becomes a clever and heartfelt journey into courage, friendship, and the art of solving a mystery.
Featuring a star-studded cast including Emma Thompson, Nicholas Braun, Nicholas Galitzine and the voices of Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Bryan Cranston and Chris O’Dowd, THE SHEEP DETECTIVES is a playful, family-friendly adventure that proves even the most unlikely heroes can crack the case.
