Two Labels, One Legacy: Hunter Valley at The Balcony
About
Same Dirt. Different Decisions.A five-course wine dinner with Cockfighter’s Ghost & Pooles Rock
After the response to our last dinner - it felt right to go again.
On Friday May 15, from 6:30pm, The Wandering Cellar Door returns to The Balcony, Townsville for an intimate five-course degustation built around two classic Hunter Valley labels: Cockfighter’s Ghost and Pooles Rock.
Two wineries, shaped by the same family group.
Shared origins… but very different decisions in the vineyard and the winery.
That’s the thread we’ll follow across the evening.
You’ll move through a six-wine line-up, from bright, expressive whites through to structured reds and a generous liqueur finish. Each wine has been selected not just for quality, but for what it reveals: about site, intent, and the choices that shape style.
Chef Luke’s five-course menu, as always, has been crafted with real care - thoughtful, seasonal, and designed to complement and elevate each wine as it’s poured.
I’ll guide you through it all in classic The Wandering Cellar Door style: relaxed, conversational, and without the fluff. A few stories, a bit of context, and plenty of room for your own take on what’s in the glass.
If you were with us last time, you know the tone. If you weren’t, this is a very good place to start.
