Join us for an evening of in-person yarns with a delegation of sovereign Kanak political and cultural Aunties and Uncles, with a focus on decolonial feminism.
This is a rare opportunity to hear from and connect directly with our closest Pacifika siblings, made possible by grassroots community fundraising.

WHY IS A DELEGATION OF KANAK FEMINISTS COMING TO MAGAN-DJIN (BRISBANE)?
1. GEOGRAPHY AND HISTORY-
KANAKY (NEW CALEDONIA) IS THE CLOSEST NEIGHBOUR TO WHERE WE ARE, ON YUGGERA AND TURRBAL COUNTRY.
LIKE BLAKFULLAS, THE KANAKS HAVE BEEN RESISTING SETTLER-COLONISATION SINCE INVASION. FOR THEM; IT IS FRANCE.
THE PACIFIC BOND BETWEEN BLAKFULLAS AND KANAKS RUNS LONGER AND DEEPER THAN THE HISTORY OF BLACKBIRDING, WESTERN COLONIALISM OR EVEN EUROPEAN "CIVILISATION".
2. THE 2024 KANAK UPRISING AND ABORIGINAL DELEGATIONS TO KANAKY-
IN MAY 2024, THE KANAK PEOPLES REVOLTED YET AGAIN. NOT MERELY FOR INDEPENDENCE, BUT FOR THE BROADER, HISTORIC, REVOLUTIONARY GOALS OF DECOLONISATION AND SELF-DETERMINATION.
DESPITE BEING A MINORITY IN THEIR OWN LANDS, THE KANAK UPRISING SHUT DOWN THE ENTIRE FRENCH COLONY FOR WEEKS INTO MONTHS, AND STILL SURVIVES TO THIS DAY DESPITE BRUTAL COLONIAL REPRESSION. WHAT LITTLE MEDIA COVERAGE THAT'S HAPPENED HAS MOSTLY BEEN MAINSTREAM COLONIAL WHITEWASH.
MOB AND COMRADES FROM THE BELOW GROUPS HAVE COMMUNITY-FUNDED MULTIPLE VISITS SINCE THE UPRISING BEGAN, TO AMPLIFY SOVEREIGN KANAK PERSPECTIVES AND BUILD TANGIBLE SOLIDARITY BETWEEN BOTH INDIGENOUS STRUGGLES.
BECAUSE OF THEM, THIS TOUR IS POSSIBLE.
3. INDIGENOUS WOMEN AND RE-UNITING THE PACIFIC SOVEREIGN PEOPLES-
EMERGING FROM THE TRAUMA AND VIOLENCE OF FRENCH COLONIAL RULE, KANAK WOMEN ARE ON THE FRONT LINES OF RESISTANCE, AND PLAY A CENTRAL ROLE IN KANAK CUSTOMARY LIFE.
BY CENTRING INDIGENOUS WOMEN AND THEIR DECOLONIAL FEMINISM, WE NURTURE FERTILE GROUNDS BETWEEN BLAKFULLAS, KANAKS AND ALL SOVEREIGN MELANESIAN SIBLINGS, AND SOW THE SEEDS FOR A LIBERATED PACIFIC.
