A Romanian Flute Journey
About
In celebration of Romanian culture and musical heritage, this program traces a path from Baroque elegance to the rich colours, lyricism, and folk traditions of Romania, shaped by composers drawing on national character and dance. Romanian flautist Maria Brereton, an exceptionally accomplished young musician who has already performed with leading ensembles including the Australian Honours Ensemble Programme and the Queensland Youth Orchestra and made her debut as a flute soloist with the Cooloola Orchestra, joins Melbourne-based pianist Charlotte Roberts in works by Handel, Enescu, Bartók, and Ciprian Porumbescu’s Balada, Op. 29, before culminating in François Borne’s dazzling Carmen Fantasy.Date
