Support before System - Practitioner Training
About
Support Before System is a one‑day, evidence‑informed practitioner training delivered by The Reily Foundation for professionals who work with children and families before crisis or child protection involvement.Families rarely move into crisis suddenly. Stress builds over time, and practitioners are often the first to notice early indicators. This training strengthens practitioners’ confidence, skills and shared language to respond earlier, raise concerns safely, and offer meaningful support that reduces the likelihood of escalation.
The training focuses on:
Recognising early signs of family stress and vulnerability
Approaching parents with curiosity rather than judgement
Distinguishing poverty from neglect
Building trust and strengthening relationships with families
Using practical, structured tools that support early intervention
Understanding the South Australian child protection system and pathways
Hearing directly from parents with lived experience about what helped—and what caused harm
Support Before System blends lived experience, frontline practice wisdom and system insights, ensuring the content is grounded, practical and immediately applicable. Participants leave with concrete strategies they can use in everyday conversations, as well as a renewed sense of purpose and confidence in their role supporting families earlier.
This training is suitable for anyone working with children and families before crisis, including professionals across education, health, community services, allied health, family support, housing, mental health, AOD and domestic violence services.
Practical tools. Real conversations. Earlier support. Better outcomes.
