About
The Srinivasa kalyanam story
"Srinivasa Kalyanam is the divine marriage of Lord Venkateswara (also called Srinivasa or Balaji), an avatar of Lord Vishnu, and Goddess Padmavati, a reincarnation of Goddess Lakshmi. The story involves the sage Bhrigu's test of the gods, which causes Lakshmi to leave Vaikuntha, leading Vishnu to search for her. He settles in Tirumala Hills, meets and falls in love with Princess Padmavati, and their subsequent marriage is arranged with the help of others, culminating in a grand ceremony attended by the gods.
The story in more detail
The Test of the Gods: In ancient times, the gods were testing who among them was the most worthy of worship. Sage Bhrigu traveled to the abodes of Brahma, Shiva, and Vishnu. He found that Brahma was chanting the Vedas and Shiva was in deep meditation, but neither acknowledged him. He then went to Vishnu's abode, Vaikuntha, and, finding him asleep, kicked him on the chest.
Lakshmi Leaves: Vishnu awoke and, instead of getting angry, gently massaged Bhrigu's foot, having deduced the reason for the kick and apologizing for not noticing him. Lakshmi, feeling that her husband had forgiven the sage for an insult, left Vaikuntha in anger.
Vishnu's Search and Arrival: Vishnu, in the form of Srinivasa, goes in search of Lakshmi. He eventually arrives at the hills of Tirumala, where he is cared for by Vakula Devi (who was once the mother of Vishnu in her past life).
Meeting Padmavati: During one of his outings, Srinivasa sees Princess Padmavati and instantly falls in love with her. The princess also falls in love with him.
Arranging the Marriage: Vakula Devi helps in arranging the marriage, and Srinivasa, disguised as a fortune teller, visits the palace to confirm the alliance with the princess and her parents, King Akasharaaja and Queen Dharanidevi.
The Wedding: After their love is confirmed, the marriage is set. Kubera provides the funds, and the wedding is celebrated with Lord Brahma and Lord Shiva in attendance. Srinivasa fulfills his promise to marry Vedavati (who is also a reincarnation of Lakshmi and Sita) in the Kali Yuga as Srinivasa."
