πΏ The Mandala: Meaning & History
Mandala is a Sanskrit word meaning βcircleβ or βwholeness.β Across cultures, including Buddhism, Hinduism, and Tibetan traditions, mandalas have long been used as spiritual symbols for balance, unity, and connection to something greater than ourselves.
Psychologist Carl Jung described the mandala as a reflection of the inner self and the unconscious β a symbolic map of our inner world.
The circular form can also be seen throughout nature and the universe β from cells and atoms, to flowers, trees, and galaxies β reflecting a pattern of wholeness that exists on both micro and macro levels.
In art therapy, creating a mandala becomes a reflective and grounding process. It is not about artistic ability or the final image, but about the experience of creating β allowing inner feelings, emotions, and intuition to naturally express themselves through colour and form.
Each mandala becomes a personal snapshot of your inner world in that moment.
