We are honoured to welcome Fodé Mané, musician, drummer, and dancer from Senegal, West Africa.

Fodé spent over twenty years travelling the world as a performing artist, including performing as a principal dancer and percussionist with Senegal’s leading dance company, Bakalama de Thionck Essyl.

Since calling Australia home, he has continued to share the vibrant spirit of West African culture through energetic, educational, and deeply engaging performances.

Through Jamo Jamo Arts, Fodé offers workshops, performances, school programs, retreats, and cultural experiences that celebrate rhythm, movement, and community.

🌿 About Sound & Spirit

Sound & Spirit is the heart-centred collaboration of husband-and-wife duo, Alex and Steph, combining their shared love of music, meditation, nature, and community wellbeing.

Steph is a certified hypnotherapist, meditation and sound practitioner, offering a calm, intuitive presence that gently guides you inward — supporting nervous system balance, clarity, and self-connection.

Alex is a professional musician of over 20 years with a deep connection to sound and spirituality. Through live, layered sound, he creates immersive soundscapes. His gift lies in transforming sound into a medium for healing, presence, and connection.

Together, Alex & Steph create authentic experiences designed to be enriching, restorative, and joyful — supporting both individual and community wellbeing.

🌿 The Therapeutic Nature of Rhythm & Drumming

Drumming is an ancient practice that uses rhythm as a pathway for expression, regulation, and healing. Across cultures — from West Africa to Mongolia — rhythm has long been used to support physical, emotional, and spiritual wellbeing.

Modern research now supports what these traditions have always known: rhythmic drumming can assist in stress reduction, emotional release, improved mood, and nervous system regulation. Group drumming in particular has been shown to reduce anxiety, support connection, and ease feelings of isolation.

From a therapeutic perspective, rhythm acts as an anchor for the nervous system — gently guiding awareness into the present moment and supporting a shift from thinking into embodied experience.

🌿 West African Dance & Movement Traditions

West African dance traditions are deeply rooted in spirituality, ceremony, and community life. Movement has historically been inseparable from daily living — woven into rituals, celebrations, healing practices, and connection to community and spirit.

In Senegalese Diola traditions, drumming and dance are expressed through instruments such as the djembe and dundun, alongside grounded rhythm, dynamic movement, and full-bodied expression.

Within these traditions, rhythm and movement have been used to support healing, communication, and collective connection — and most importantly, as an expression of joy and aliveness.

From a wellbeing perspective, this embodied practice invites presence, release, and reconnection through the body — supporting regulation through rhythm, movement, and shared experience.

🌿 Rhythm, Movement & Regulation

Rhythm and movement have long been used across cultures as tools for regulation, expression, and connection.

In this experience, drumming and embodied movement support the nervous system to release stored stress, reconnect with natural rhythm, and return to a more balanced state of being.

This is not about performance — but presence, release, and reconnection through rhythm.
