Enhancing Reliability & Integrity of Seawater Service
Enhancing Reliability & Integrity of Seawater Service S and T Heat Exchangers Through Monel Cladding
In seawater-operated Shell and Tube Heat Exchangers, tubes side including tubes, tube sheets, channels and body flanges sealing faces are highly exposed to chloride-rich environments, making them vulnerable to pitting, crevice corrosion, and galvanic attack. To mitigate these risks with an economical and reliable solution, we performed weld overlay cladding using Monel 400 on the tube sheets and wetted flange surfaces.
Monel 400 was selected due to:
• Excellent resistance to seawater corrosion
• High resistance to chloride-induced pitting
• Strong performance in marine environments.
• Good weldability and structural compatibility with carbon steel base material
The cladding was executed using SMAW & GTAW (TIG) weld overlay under qualified WPS, PQR and required NDT with controlled heat input and dilution ( less than 5–10%).
