Monologues for Drama Audition

ANNIE from Annie Jnr
ANNIE: (Talking with Mr. Warbucks) This locket, my mom and dad left it...when they left me at the orphanage. And a note, too. They’re coming back for me. I know I’m real lucky, being here with you for Christmas. But... the one thing I want in all the world... (crying)...is to find my mother and father. And to be like other kids, with folks of my own.

JASMINE from Aladdin Jnr
JASMINE: Oh, father. Rajah was just playing with him, weren't you Rajah. You were just playing with that overdressed, self-absorbed Prince Achmed, weren't you? Ahem....The law is wrong. Father, I hate being forced into this. If I do marry, I want it to be for love. Try to understand. I've never done a thing on my own. I've never had any real friends...Except you, Rajah. I've never even been outside the palace walls. Maybe I don't want to be a princess.

MATILDA from Matilda the Musical
MATILDA: (to Miss Honey) Yes. Well, I needed to learn to read words so that I could reads sentences. Because basically a sentence is just a big bunch of words. And if you can’t read sentences, you’ve got no chance with books. (to the students) Oh, no, she’s coming! You’d better hide! Quick, jackets! Nigel is over the Miss Trunchbull under those coats. Where he’s been for the last hour, actually. Oh, yes. You see, unfortunately, Nigel suffers from the rare, but chronic sleep disorder, narcolepsy. He’ll probably think he’s in bed when he wakes up.

GILLIAN from Dags by Debra Oswald
GILLIAN: All right. I’m going to admit something I never thought I’d admit to anyone ever. I’ve got a crush on Adam. Head over heels. I know every girl at school is in love with him. I know he’d never go for a dag like me. I know it’s hopeless. I know all that. But I can’t help it. Just thinking he might look at me, my heart starts pounding like mad. And then I worry about whether he can tell my heart’s going crazy, and I have to act really cool. This crush – it’s like a disease.

ALADDIN from Aladdin Jnr
ALADDIN: Genie...I can't, I'm serious. Look, I'm sorry--I really am. But they want to make me sultan--no!, They want to make Prince Ali sultan. Without you, I'm just Aladdin. Because of you! The only reason anyone thinks I'm anything is because of you. What if they find out I'm not really a prince? (Quietly) What if Jasmine finds out? I'll lose her. Genie, I can't keep this up on my own. I can't wish you free.

BRUCE from Matilda the Musical
BRUCE: Okay, look. Alright. I stole the cake. And honestly, I was really, definitely, sort of almost thinking about owning up. Maybe? But the thing is, I was having a lot of trouble with my belly. You see, the Trunchbull’s cake was so good that I’d scoffed it down too quick, and now it was beginning to fight back. And then ... it happened. It was the biggest burp I had ever done. It was the biggest burp I had ever heard, the biggest burp I had ever heard about. It was like the entire world went silent for that burp to exist, as a huge cloud of chocolatey gas wafted from my mouth and drifted ... across the class ... past Lavender ... past Alice ... past Matilda ... and then, my great, big, beautiful, chocolaty burp.

FARQUAAD from Shrek Jnr
FARQUAAD: Listen cookie, you still haven’t told me where the princess is. Oh, she’s in a dragon-guarded castle surrounded by hot lava. Well that sounds dangerous. She’s in the highest room in the tallest tower, you say? The Princess Fiona with fiery red hair. Ooo, Princess Fiona, she sounds perfect. Except for that dragon and lava thing. I’ll have to find someone else to go rescue her. Captain, round up your men, summon the citizens and bring that cookie to the swamp. Thelonius, tell the royal coiffeur I need to get my hair pressed. We’re going to get a queen.

We look forward to seeing students share their passion for drama and demonstrate their potential as part of this exciting program.
