Join us for a quietly uplifting evening with Rental Family, a warm and thoughtful comic drama starring Brendan Fraser.
Set in modern Tokyo, Rental Family follows Philip (Brendan Fraser), a lonely, down-on-his-luck American actor whose biggest claim to fame is a bizarre toothpaste commercial. His fortunes change when he lands a peculiar job with a “rental family” agency, stepping into strangers’ lives to play whatever role they need—grieving friend, absent son, or “sad American” at a funeral.
What begins as a series of performances is turned into something more meaningful, as Philip forms unexpected, heartfelt connections that blur the line between acting and real life. Tender, offbeat and full of gentle humour, HIKARI’s luminous film is a moving exploration of belonging, identity, and the families we create—reminding us that sometimes the hardest role to play is simply being yourself.
