Masterclass: Depression in Older Adults
About
This masterclass provides in-depth training on the causes of depression in later life, as well as how to identify depression and the recommended approaches to assessment of symptoms. Participants will also learn about the scientific evidence for various treatment components, and what works best for whom. Participants will receive training in practical strategies that can be used to reduce depression in older adults whether they are living in aged care or in the community.

FACILITATOR
Viviana Wuthrich is a clinical psychologist, Professor in the School of Psychological Sciences, and Director of the Lifespan Health and Wellbeing Research Centre at Macquarie University. Her clinical research interests relate to developing and evaluating psychosocial interventions, with a particular focus on older adult mental health. She conducts psychometric studies to validate symptom measures to detect anxiety and depression in older adults, and experimental studies to understand the mechanisms that cause and maintain mental disorders.
Her research includes the development and evaluation in clinical trials of psychological interventions to reduce anxiety, depression, loneliness and reduce risk for dementia, and translation of these programs into public and private mental health settings.
She is the developer of the Ageing Wisely psychological program for the treatment of depression and anxiety in older adults.
