You are invited to join Regional Cities New South Wales and Regional Capitals Australia for a joint dinner during ALGA Conference week — an opportunity for regional leaders from across Australia to connect in a more informal setting outside the conference program.

Held on the evening of Tuesday 23 June 2026, following the ALGA Conference Regional Forum, Welcome Reception and Exhibition Opening, the dinner will bring together councillors, mayors, CEOs, General Managers and sector stakeholders for an evening of networking, conversation and good company.

This year, we are also adding some entertainment: The Regional Roast — a friendly interstate stoush for people who know the difference between a regional capital and a capital city with a marketing budget.

Roasters are already locked in from the great states of NSW and WA — so if you are willing to step up and represent your state, let the Secretariat know.

Part celebration of country pride and part good-natured interstate rivalry, The Regional Roast will offer an evening of humour, sharp observations and proudly regional perspectives. Expect a few carefully aimed Canberra sledges — fittingly delivered in a city purpose-built for discussing regional Australia from a safe distance.

The tone will be warm, respectful and good-natured — but not so polite that anyone mistakes it for a ministerial speech.

Alongside good food and wine, the dinner will provide a relaxed and enjoyable environment to continue conversations from throughout the conference week, strengthen relationships across regional local government, and share experiences on the common challenges and opportunities facing regional communities.

The dinner is expected to be a highlight of the week for many regional delegates attending ALGA.
