Starting Strong: Building Your Research Career - Day 2
ECUs Early and Mid-Career Researcher Network (EMCRN) Committee invite ECU EMCRs and PhD and Masters candidates to attend a 1.5 day professional development workshop with Visiting Scholar Professor Michael Milford from the Queensland University of Technology.
About the workshop:
- Two‑part workshop delivered over 1.5 days to support your research career development through expert panels from diverse academic backgrounds.
- Led by Professor Michael Milford there will be discussions and panels featuring ECU EMCRs and Leaders on Publishing and Research and Advancing your Research Career. Panel bio’s will be available soon.
- We encourage participants from all schools to attend, as general tips for career development will be provided and will be applicable to everyone. Register for one or both days.
- Participants will gain practical guidance on building their research profile, navigating career pathways, and connecting with peers and mentors to support confident next steps.
About: Professor Michael Milford is the Director of QUT Robotics Centre, an ARC Laureate Fellow and Microsoft Fellow. Michael is an interdisciplinary researcher working at the intersection of robotics, neuroscience and computer vision. He is a multi‑award‑winning educational entrepreneur with a strong commitment to public engagement around emerging technologies including robotics and AI. He has or is leading or co-leading projects totalling more than 48 million dollars in research and industry funding for fellowships and team grants. Michael is an award‑winning researcher whose many prestigious honours include a Microsoft Research Faculty Fellowship, the ATSE Batterham Medal, Queensland Young Tall Poppy of the Year, the Australian Museum Eureka Prize for Outstanding Mentor of Researchers and major national and international research prizes. Alongside his academic career, Michael has spent two decades developing innovative STEM education resources reaching learners in more than 35 countries. He is also the creator of Hacking Academia, a popular video and podcast series offering practical, experience‑driven advice on thriving in modern academia and related careers.
