A small group has been responding to a need across our parishes for discussions that give life to the ‘Synodal Way’ that Pope Francis, and now Pope Leo have discerned, with the Church, as a way of being – a way which journeys together along the way.Initially this was St Kevin’s and St Greg’s and with the start of partnering with St Clement’s it is now an opportunity for all three parishes to come together as ‘church’ and spend an evening working together with the Holy Spirit.
Date and time: Thursday 21st May, 6 – 8 pm
Place: The Clifton Centre at St Clement of Rome Parish 21 Egan Drive Bulleen.
We will share a light dinner then I will introduce the evening with a brief outline of ‘being synodal’ after which we will spend the rest of the time in discussions starting with ‘your perception of signs of the times for our church’ then looking at topics such as reaching out to the sick/elderly; engaging families of the schools; ways to listen to young people and respond; turning ‘acts of kindness into missionary opportunity’ – the actual set of discussions is yet to be finalised but they will be similar to these that I’ve outlined.
This synodal conversation will have double importance as a moment of getting to know each other as we seek ways forward. It is not intended as a forum to discuss our future together – the idea arose well before partnering as parishes became a fact. Rather it is a moment to talk in a broader way about how we exist as disciples of Christ who seek to bring his Good News to the world around us.
By next weekend we will be organised with sign-up sheets / QR codes / Trybooking so that we can get a good handle on numbers for catering purposes.
Relatively short notice I know – but an important moment for us. I encourage you to come.
