Cybersafety Seminar for Year 7 Students and Parents
About
Susan McLean from Cybersafety Solutions will be presenting to Year 7 students and parents/carers on Monday 1 June, 7-8:30pm, in the BLT at Santa Maria College. Susan is Australia’s foremost expert in the field of cybersafety and young people. The session will be an engaging and empowering opportunity for students, parents and carers to learn about the reality of the online world.
Susan guarantees that the knowledge she will share will be a wake up call for even the most switched on parent, covering the benefits of technology as well as the dangers.
Though the Australian government has great intentions with the Social Media Delay for young people under 16, our experience of the current reality is that many, maybe most, of our students have access, and parents are allowing, and in some cases facilitating, this continued use of the platforms. When young people argue ‘but everyone else is doing it’, parents often weaken, for fear of social isolation for their child. However, the adults in the lives of today’s young people need to be well aware of what we are exposing them to when we allow access, and how we can mitigate substantial risks.
