Yiyun Gu and Joshua Dema present 'Pierrot to Polonaise', a program of works written for cello and piano, which explores the full imagination and character of this instrumental combination.
Each composer has a story to tell through their music. You'll hear sparkling wit and elegant banter in Chopin's Introduction and Polonaise Brillante, folk wisdom and raw searching in Kodály's Sonatina, the theatrical and moonlit world of Pierrot, in Debussy's Sonate pour violoncelle et piano, and sweeping joyful songs in Mendelssohn's Cello Sonata No. 2.

Yiyun Gu and Joshua Dema form a Melbourne-based chamber duo dedicated to expressive, cross-cultural, and finely crafted performances. Bringing together Yiyun’s versatility as a soloist and collaborator with Joshua’s rich chamber music experience, the duo explores repertoire spanning the Western classical canon and contemporary works, with an openness to diverse musical influences.
