Melbourne folk ensembles Saray Iluminado and The Klez Dispensers Down Under invite you to a delicious afternoon soirée of musical delights. Born of the artists’ desire to champion stories of connection, this shared concert is a vibrant intercultural dialogue between Balkan and Jewish music traditions.Featuring Klezmer music from the Yiddish-speaking world, secular Sephardic Romances originating from the Ladino speaking world and the sounds of the Bosnian Sevdalinka tradition. Distinct yet deeply connected, both traditions illuminate the everyday lives of common people, painting rich soundscapes of past eras while exploring timeless themes of exile, love, desire, despair, triumph, and hope. In both Jewish and Balkan lore, human experience is inseparable from music, hearty food, and communal celebration.
Ticket holders are invited to select a tasting of either baklava or blintz at the time of ticket purchase to complete the experience.
