Synopsis: John explores why many remote Indigenous EAL/D students disengage from mathematics, focusing on how language, meaning-making and cultural knowledge shape mathematical understanding. He demonstrates how Talking Namba can build strong teaching teams and develop essential local mathematical vocabulary, using Indigenous language as a semiotic resource to strengthen engagement and comprehension.Presenter Bio: John Bradbury has 20 years’ experience in remote NT Indigenous schools, including 14 years in leadership and six as a mathematics consultant. He also coordinated development of the Talking Namba resource.
