Charcoal Portraits for Adult Beginners
About
Charcoal Portraits for Adult Beginnerswith Cindy MacDonald
Cindy’s two-day charcoal portrait workshop is the perfect entry point for anyone curious about drawing the human face. Designed for beginners, the class introduces the essential materials, techniques, and methods Cindy uses to create simple, realistic portraits.
Across the two days, you’ll explore key concepts such as understanding facial features, working with light and shadow (value), refining edges, and building depth through shading. You’ll also experiment with different surfaces—including the striking technique of drawing on black paper with white chalk.
With Cindy’s relaxed, friendly teaching style and clear step-by-step guidance, you’ll feel supported from start to finish. Even if you’ve never picked up charcoal before, you’ll leave with the skills and confidence to create a strong, recognisable portrait.
