In WA’s Southwest in the early 1940s two young women, one Aboriginal, one white working class joined forces and made history in a small school. They challenged and overcame the various barriers erected to prevent Aboriginal children attending the school. One of these young women was Lily Penny. She had four school age children and sought to have them attend the white-only school. The other was Joan Trappitt, newly graduated from Claremont Teachers College, she was the only teacher in the school.Join us for National Reconciliation Week to hear the powerful story of these changemakers from their descendants, Dr Roma 'Yibiyung' Winmar AM, Professor Charlie Fox and Emeritus Professor Jane Kenway.
