This event will feature presentations by local general surgeons on the assessment and management of complex surgical presentations commonly seen in primary care. The session will provide up‑to‑date, evidence‑based guidance on recognising risk in colorectal PR bleeding, interpreting breast lumps and imaging reports, and identifying significant gastrointestinal pathology. It will focus on early risk recognition, targeted investigations and clear referral pathways to help optimise patient access and care within the current healthcare system.Learning outcomes
Participants will be able to:
Describe the cohort effect in colorectal disease and determine appropriate examination, imaging and referral pathways for younger patients presenting with PR bleeding.
Examine relevant guidelines and management pathways for complex breast lumps and indeterminate imaging reports.
Integrate risk‑assessment strategies and develop management and referral plans for patients at moderate and high risk when using GLP‑1RA therapy.
Explain the full range of management options for abdominal hernias, including the risks and benefits of mesh and non‑mesh repair techniques.
