Soaring Spires - Music & Architecture 1
About
Spectacular architecture often inspires sublime works of music. Yet more than that, the music itself can also evoke the actual structure of the building. With strong foundations and pillars of cantus firmus, soaring vaults and arches in the intricate interweaving of vocal lines, and sometimes even the pealing of church bells.Join Lumina for an exploration of fabulous architectural music from the Medieval, Renaissance and beyond, including the stunning motet Dufay composed for the 1436 consecration of Florence Cathedral; and works by Ciconia, Josquin and Orlando di Lasso.
Choose from two fabulous Adelaide venues: the classical splendour of Barr Smith Library Reading Room at Adelaide University, or the lofty gothic arches of St John’s Church, Halifax St.
