This unconventional path has given him a musical voice that feels entirely his own.
Since that breakthrough, Debargue has performed in many of the world’s leading halls — from the Berlin Philharmonie and Concertgebouw Amsterdam to Wigmore Hall and Carnegie Hall — and has appeared with major orchestras including the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra, the Mariinsky Orchestra, and the Orchestre de Paris. Wherever he plays, he is admired for interpretations that are meticulous in craft yet fearless in imagination, revealing unexpected layers in both well-loved and overlooked repertoire.
A Sony Classical recording artist, Debargue has built an acclaimed discography that spans Scarlatti, Bach, Chopin, Ravel and beyond, alongside his own compositions — more than twenty works for piano and chamber ensembles that reflect the same searching spirit that defines his performances.
Born in Paris, Lucas honours the tradition of the French Salon, understanding that most pre-20thC work was created for smaller chambers than the grand 2000-seat venues where most concert pianists of Debargue's status normally perform. We are thrilled that Lucas has taken time out from his tour of major Australian cities to make a special visit to Healesville, and to perform a solo recital in our little chamber here.
